Instructions on selecting and shipping flowers

Picture
Hydrangeas are great!
Images of some flowers that work well, such as roses, Alstroemeria, larkspur, carnations, and hydrangea. Of course these come in various colors and all work well. Cut stems to 1”, except for hydrangea. Leave at least 4”, if you can, so I can put in water and rehydrate before pressing. Cut stems to 1”, except for hydrangea.

Some flowers do change color a little bit when pressed. Red roses press to a maroon color and white roses to a cream color.

These flowers work up beautifully!

FLOWERS FOR “Pressed Flower Style” DESIGNS

It is important to receive the flowers ASAP. I have waived my normal pressing charges of $30 to make items more affordable for you. Overnight shipping is the most desirable way to send your flowers for this style.
If it is the weekend and you can not ship until Monday, keep the flowers in a vase of water in the refrigerator.
Do not take out until ready to ship. Prepare your flowers by cutting off the stems and loosely wrapping INDIVIDUAL flower heads in paper towels. Please do not tape them. Try and keep flowers, like Mums, flat. Do not wrap two flowers together as they will bruise. Be careful to not get water on the flower heads. Try and enclose a variety of flowers for a more varied design. If you only wish red roses, for example, that is fine too. You may also enclose a few leaves if they are small. Usually I use my own greenery, as it is the appropriate size. Place in a box with more cushioning around them.

These are flowers that I can NOT use for either style. If you have a lily bud, you may send that, but not an open one.

Custom backings for memorial jewelry & paperweights

If you wish to have an image on the pendant, or paperweight back, I will need a photograph. I can scan it and edit out any unwanted background and add your wording. I will keep your photograph safe and return it with your order. You may also digitally send me a file. It is best if an e-mail file is large. I can adjust the size on this end.

Flowers for "confetti style" memorial jewelry & paperweights

A: IF YOUR FLOWERS ARE FRESH AND YOU WANT THE CONFETTI STYLE
You do not need to overnight express your flowers to me for this style.
You can send me flowers by PRIORITY mail for the confetti style, as urgency in drying is not as important.
You can dry them yourself easily.
This is sooooooo easy to do!
The best way to dry your flowers for this purpose is to pull all the petals off the flower head.
Try and avoid getting stamens and leaves and the stems mixed in.
Arrange a bunch of loose petals on 1 sheet of paper towel and "nuke" for 30 seconds on "high".
Change paper towel after each 30 second "blast" and wipe the moisture from the microwave.
When the flowers feel dry [they will feel crunchy and brittle] you are done. They will shrivel right up, but this is fine. Red roses turn maroon and this is normal.
Most flowers will be dry after about 6 blasts of 30 seconds. Do NOT nuke for more than 30 seconds each time, as the flowers will burn! Please  "nuke" white flowers at 20 second intervals.
If you are in a low humidity area and are not in a rush....just spread your flower petals out on tissue paper or newspaper.
When they are absolutely dry they will be very light in weight and feel dry.
Place them in an envelope within the mailing envelope or box and mail them to me.
It is best NOT to use a baggie, as they can hold in moisture if any is left in your petals and they can rot the flowers.

B: IF YOU WANT ME TO DRY THEM FOR YOU
It is understandable that you may not feel like doing the above process when in grief. I would be happy to do this for you and you do not need to overnight them to me. Follow the process for wrapping fresh flowers above, then send them to me via priority mail. Please make sure you include your name on the package!

Addresses to use for different carriers (read carefully!)

Please note carefully that my shipping directions are different for each carrier!
USPS:
Ruth Wales
P.O. Box 174
Casco, ME 04015
* Often the PO will tell you that the express delivery will take 2 days.
This is almost never the case. I almost always get them the next day. I think they just try and “cover their ...” :-)

UPS:
Ruth Wales
153 Wayaka Lane
Casco,ME 04015

* UPS may tell you there is no such address in their system.
Trust me and tell them to send anyway. I am on a dead end camp road geographically in Casco, but with all Otisfield [04270] town delivery. You may want to make note of this to tell the agent and he can mark on the label accordingly.

Fed-Ex:
USE ONLY FOR ACTUAL "OVERNIGHT EXPRESS" [not Priority Express]
My preferred carrier is UPS.

Ruth Wales
153 Wayaka Lane

Otisfield, ME 04270

* They may say I am not in their system. I am geographically in the next town of Casco, but it is the Otisfield delivery truck that brings my items.
Tell them to send them even if THEY have no record of my address....it WILL get to me!!!!

Ahhhhhh, country living!!! :-

Call me with ANY questions or concerns! TEL: 207/627-7234

I also check my e-mail regularly when away, so that is another way to reach me.
*Note: If you change your mind about sending flowers after we have discussed your order, please call and let me know so I will not be worrying and waiting for your flowers! Also, please do not send with a signature confirmation. I may be out walking my dog and miss the delivery. Just notify me that you are shipping flowers and by what carrier and I will be sure to be here!

I want your custom memorial flower jewelry to be as special and unique as the loved one you have lost.
